Working Pattern

Use this window to define the working patterns you can assign to employees. You can use one of the working patterns as the default working pattern on the Controls tab of the system definitions (System Setup > Housekeeping > System Definitions > Controls). The system’s default working pattern is Monday – Friday, except bank holidays.

You use a working pattern to define the days on which an employee normally works. Some employees might work Monday – Friday, while others might work fewer days or follow a flexible working pattern that changes from week to week.

The days an employee works is used in the calculation of the duration of their employment absence. For example, if an employee is absent on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, but their working pattern indicates they work on Thursday and Friday, the system calculates their absence duration as two days.

Your organization has days in the year that are non-working days. These days include bank and public holidays. You can define a default for the non-working days in NON Working Days and this default can be used for all employees. Alternatively, you can define the non-working days in a working pattern, and assign that working pattern to employees. When the system assesses absence for those employees, it considers the non-working days defined in the working pattern you assign to them.

You can define flexible working patterns for those employees who have a different working pattern for each week of employment. For example, you can define a working pattern for employees who work Monday morning and afternoon and Tuesday afternoon in week 1, and in week 2 work Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning and afternoon, and so on. As part of the pattern, you can also define the hours employees work.
